Bring Thanks and Giving to your Family’s Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day Prayer

This Thanksgiving many of us will enjoy a delicious meal among family and friends. It is likely, as we sit around the dinner table, we will pray and reflect on just how blessed we are for all the gifts the Lord has bestowed on us. And in our generosity, many of us will be sharing those gifts in some way or the other in thanksgiving, whether it be canned food, monetary donations, or maybe serving dinner at our local soup kitchen. This year, we’d like to mention another opportunity to bring thanks and giving to your family’s Thanksgiving.

You may be familiar with the organization Mary’s Meals, especially if you joined us at last year’s conference.  Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, our first speaker of the day, spoke about his founding of Mary’s Meals and “The Shed That Fed A Million Children.” This year a Mary’s Meals group has introduced an easy way to involve the family in giving to those less fortunate through a virtual Mary’s Meals Turkey Trot.

What we love about this idea:

  1. It’s easy to do! Just sign up to walk and give HERE
  2. It can involve the whole family and your friends too.
  3. You can walk, run, trot, or stroll when it’s convenient.
  4. It’s incentive to get moving! If you do it after your Thanksgiving feast, you get the added benefit of helping your digestion by walking after your meal.
  5. Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donation, all contributions to Mary’s Meals between now and Dec. 31 will be matched dollar for dollar!

Here’s the letter we received from Kaitlin Flynn of Mary’s Meals:

This Thanksgiving, Mary’s Meals has a fun new way you can support our shared vision that every child receive a daily meal in their place of education.

Introducing Run Locally, Feed Globally, a virtual Turkey Trot in support of Mary’s Meals! More details and registration information are available at https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Bloomfield/MarysMealsTurkeyTrot.

Sign up today and you will receive a race packet with a limited edition Mary’s Mealsshirt (image below). Then, as part of your Thanksgiving celebration, run, walk, jog or stroll in YOUR local community and help provide warm, nutritious meals to the children suffering the extremes of hunger and poverty.

EveryRun Locally, Feed Globally registration feeds a child every school day for an entire school year! Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donation, all contributions to Mary’s Meals between now and Dec. 31 will be matched dollar for dollar! This “Double the Love” campaign means that every race sign up fee of $30 will be matched, doubling your impact and support of Mary’s Meals effort to feed impoverished children in their places of education!

Please consider making the inaugural Run Locally, Feed Globally Turkey Trot part of your family’s Thanksgiving this year. Encourage the people attending your celebration to join you in registering for the virtual race, and together you can provide warm, nutritious meals to the children Mary’s Meals is privileged to serve as part of your Thanksgiving festivities!

Let’s bring the Thanks and Giving back to Thanksgiving!
